What is Tree Pruning?

Tree pruning improves health, shape and safety, supporting new growth and keeping your trees tidy all year.

Benefits of tree pruning:

Improved structure: Pruning strengthens the tree’s shape and supports healthy, balanced growth for long-term stability.
New growth: Removing old or weak branches encourages fresh shoots, improved flowering, and overall healthier development.
Disease control: Pruning helps prevent pests and disease spreading through the canopy, protecting the rest of the tree.
Safety: Clearing dangerous or unstable branches reduces the risk of breaks that could harm people, pets, or property.
Better appearance: Pruning enhances the tree’s shape and keeps your garden looking tidy, attractive, and well cared for.

If your trees need expert pruning, our team is ready to help ensure they stay healthy, safe, and looking their best.

What is Tree Thinning?

Tree thinning removes select branches to reduce density, improve airflow and light, and support stronger, healthier long-term growth.

  • Reduced wind resistance: Thinning lowers wind pressure on branches, helping prevent breakage and storm-related damage.
  • More light: Removing dense growth allows sunlight to reach lower branches and ground plants, improving overall growth.
  • Better air flow: Opening the canopy improves air movement inside the tree, reducing moisture and lowering disease risks.
  • Less weight: Reducing branch mass helps prevent structural failure and supports long-term tree strength and stability.
  • Improved shape: Thinning creates a balanced, natural form that enhances the tree’s appearance and keeps it looking tidy.

If you’re unsure whether trees would benefit from thinning, contact Access Tree Care and our team can advise on safest, effective approach.

When to Consider Tree Pruning and Thinning

Regular pruning and thinning should be part of your routine tree care, but certain signs show when it’s time to call a professional.

  • Overgrown branches: Branches growing too close to your home or blocking light may need pruning for safety and better access.
  • Dead or damaged branches: Weak or broken limbs can fall in bad weather, creating risks to people, property, and nearby areas.
  • Dense canopy: A thick canopy blocks sunlight, stopping growth beneath and reducing airflow that helps keep trees healthy.
  • Unhealthy growth: Signs of pests or disease can spread fast, and proper pruning helps protect the rest of the tree.
  • Aesthetic reasons: Pruning improves shape and balance, helping your trees look tidy and enhancing your garden’s appearance.

If you notice any of these signs, contact Access Tree Care for safe, professional pruning and thinning support.

A big thank you to Access Tree Care who came and pruned my apple trees today. I would highly recommend them for any tree pruning you need. They are very professional and were really helpful explaining what needed to be done. They pruned 2 apple trees and got rid of the ivy which was damaging other trees in my garden. They didnt just hack away at the trees like in the past where people have come and butchered the trees. I will always use them in the future. Thanks

Scott came to quote us for the removal of a dead birch within 2-3 days of us getting in touch and was much lower than other quotes we received. Him and the lads did a great job of quickly removing the tree, stumping it and tidying up some nearby trees for not too much extra at all. They tidied up well after themselves also. Would thoroughly recommend.

Scott and his team took down a diseased Beech tree that we were worried might fall towards the house in high winds today. His team cleared up and left the garden in great order despite having squeezed us in as an emergency. His price was way below what we expected to pay. I can’t speak highly enough of the service we received.

Highly recommend this local company. Did a great job removing a very large tree that had spread out into 3 separate trunks. It’s width covered the width of our garden and over next doors. Massive tree. Great price. Stacked wood neatly so we can chop for our wood burner. Removed/took away all branches leaves etc. Really happy with the final result. Great set of local lads - very professional. Photos show after result. Don’t have a photo of the tree before it got taken down.
